You can’t go to New Jersey and leave without spending at least a day at the Beach. After all, what’s not to love about soaking up the sun, swimming in the waves, and building sandcastles?
New Jersey has roughly 130 miles of coastline and is home to some of the best beaches on the East Coast. And with more than 20 beach towns, you’re sure to find one that’s perfect for you.
Some of the most popular beach towns in New Jersey include:
• Asbury Park: A popular destination for tourists and locals alike, Asbury Park is known for its vibrant boardwalk, lively beach scene, and abundance of shops and restaurants.
• Cape May: A historic seaside town, Cape May is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the Beach. It’s also home to a number of bed-and-breakfasts if you’re looking for a place to stay overnight.
• Wildwood: A family-friendly beach town, Wildwood is known for its wide beaches, amusement parks, and old-fashioned boardwalk.
No matter which beach town you choose to visit, you’re sure to have a great time. And if you get tired of the sand and sun, there are always plenty of other things to do, like shopping, dining, and exploring.
I spent a day at the Beach in Asbury Park, and it was a lot of fun. The boardwalk was crowded, but it was still easy to find a spot on the Beach. And there were plenty of places to get food and drinks. Overall, spending a day at the Beach is one of the amazing things to do in New Jersey if you’re looking to relax and have some fun.
2. Go Apple Picking at an Orchard
New Jersey is one of the top 10 states for apple production, so it’s no surprise that apple picking is a popular pastime here. Every autumn, families flock to local orchards to stock up on their favorite fall fruit. But it’s not just about the apples; it’s also about the experience.
Apple picking is a great way to spend a day in nature with your family and friends. And, of course, you get to take home a haul of fresh apples that can be used for baking pies, making applesauce, or just snacking on.
There are dozens of apple orchards across the state, so you’re sure to find one that’s convenient for you. Many of them also offer other fall activities, like hayrides and pumpkin picking. And some have on-site cider mills where you can watch apples being pressed into delicious cider.
Apple season typically runs from mid-August to late October, but it’s always best to call ahead or check the website before heading out. Some of the most popular places to go apple picking in New Jersey include:
• Alstede Farms in Chester: One of the most popular apple orchards in New Jersey, Alstede Farms offers more than 50 different kinds of apples.

• Ochs Orchard in Warwick: Ochs Orchard is a family-owned farm that’s been in operation for more than 100 years. In addition to apples, they also grow peaches, pears, and plums.
I went apple picking at Alstede Farms with my family, and it was a lot of fun. We got to try different types of apples and even found some we’d never heard of before. 3. Step Back in Time in the Cape May Historic District
Cape May is a historic seaside town that’s located at the southernmost tip of New Jersey. It’s known for its Victorian architecture, as well as its beaches and seafood.
The Cape May Historic District is the country’s largest concentration of Victorian buildings. And it’s no wonder why it’s been designated as a National Historic Landmark. Walking through the streets, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time.
There are nearly 600 historic buildings in the district, many of which are open to the public. You can tour the Cape May Lighthouse, visit the Emlen Physick Estate, or explore the Cape May County Museum. You can also take a horse-drawn carriage ride or hop aboard the Cape May MAC to see the sights.

Highlights include the snow leopard, giraffes, bison, alligators, jaguar, and much more. The Turtle Back Zoo also features an impressive array of reptiles, birds, and amphibians.

5. Have Fun at Ocean City Boardwalk

I’ve been to Liberty State Park several times, and it’s always an enjoyable experience. It’s the perfect place to go if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of New York City without actually leaving the city.
7. Have Fun at Six Flags Great Adventure
Want to experience some of the best roller coasters in the world? Then you need to head to Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey. This theme park is home to some of the most exhilarating rides, including the world’s tallest and fastest roller coaster, Kingda Ka.
In addition to the roller coasters, there are also plenty of other rides and attractions to keep you entertained. The park is divided into different themed areas, such as the Boardwalk, Adventure Alley, and Kidzopolis.
The park is also home to over 1,200 animals, including tigers, lions, elephants, and rhinos. You can see them up close on the Wild Safari Animal Adventure, which takes you on tour through the safari park in an open-air bus.
If that’s not enough, the park also holds special events throughout the year. These include post-sunset fireworks shows and FrightFest, a Halloween-themed event with haunted houses and live entertainment.

8. Board a Ferry for Ellis Island
For many immigrants, Ellis Island was the first stop in America. From 1892 to 1954, more than 12 million immigrants passed through Ellis Island in New York Harbor before starting their new lives in the United States.
Today, Ellis Island is a national monument and part of the Statue of Liberty National Monument. And you can take a ferry from Liberty State Park in New Jersey to visit both Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.
The ferry ride takes about 15 minutes each way and departs every hour. Once you’re on Ellis Island, you can explore the Immigration Museum, which chronicles the stories of those who came through Ellis Island in search of a better life. You can also take a self-guided audio tour or join a ranger-led tour to learn more about the history of the island.
Before you board the ferry, I suggest spending some time at Liberty State Park. This is a great place to have a picnic lunch before or after your visit to Ellis Island. Therefore, be sure to include Liberty State Park and Ellis Island on your list of things to see in New Jersey.
9. Learn About Marine Life at Adventure Aquarium
Located in Camden, the Adventure Aquarium is one of the top attractions in New Jersey. It’s home to more than 15,000 animals, including sharks, penguins, and stingrays.
One of the highlights is the Shark Realm, where you can walk through a glass tunnel that’s surrounded by sharks. There’s also a hands-on stingray touch pool where you can get up close and personal with these gentle creatures. In addition to the animals, the Adventure Aquarium also offers educational programs, like behind-the-scenes tours and animal encounters.

10. See a Show at the Stone Pony
The Stone Pony is one of the most iconic music venues in New Jersey. Originally opened as a jazz club in 1974, it has since hosted some of the biggest names in music, including Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, and Nirvana.

I went to see a show at the Stone Pony last summer, and it was an amazing experience. The intimate setting made it feel like I was seeing the band in my living room. Plus, the sound quality was incredible. I would definitely recommend checking out a show at this iconic venue.
11. Empty Sky 9/11 Memorial
The Empty Sky 9/11 Memorial is a memorial dedicated to the victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks. The memorial is located in Liberty State Park in Jersey City and consists of two walls, each 30 feet tall and 210 feet long. The walls are inscribed with the names of the 749 people who were killed in the attacks on the World Trade Center towers.
The Empty Sky 9/11 Memorial is a powerful and moving tribute to the victims of 9/11. It’s a great place to visit if you want to pay your respects or if you’re interested in learning more about the attacks.
After visiting the memorial, you can explore the rest of Liberty State Park. The park has a ferry terminal with service to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty, as well as a variety of other attractions. No matter what time of year you visit, the boardwalk is always worth a stroll. But if you really want to experience it at its best, plan your trip for during the summer when the weather is warm, and the atmosphere is festive.
13. Tour the Lab at Thomas Edison National Historical Park
One of the most famous inventors of all time, Thomas Edison, called New Jersey home. And at the Thomas Edison National Historical Park, you can learn about his life and work.
The park is located in Edison’s former laboratory, which is where he developed some of his most famous inventions, including the light bulb and the phonograph. You can tour the lab and see where Edison did his work. You can also see some of his original equipment and learn about his invention process. The park also has a museum with exhibits on Edison’s life and work, as well as the history of technology.
I spent my afternoon here, and it was really interesting. I got to see where Edison did his work and learn about some of his most famous inventions. And for this reason, I highly recommend you take a guided tour to get a more in-depth look at Edison’s work.
All in all, a visit to this park is a great way to learn about one of America’s most famous inventors. it’s also one of the best things to do in New Jersey if you’re interested in history or technology
14. Shop & Grab an Ice Cream at Palmer Square in Princeton
Princeton is a charming town with a lot to offer, from its colonial-style architecture to its lively downtown area. And at the center of it all is Palmer Square, a pedestrian-friendly shopping district with an array of stores and restaurants.
There are more than 60 businesses in Palmer Square, including high-end retailers like J.Crew and Anthropologie, as well as local boutiques and cafes. You can easily spend a few hours browsing the shops and grabbing a bite to eat. And when you’re ready for a break, head over to Thomas Sweet ice cream shop for a delicious treat.
If you’re visiting Princeton University, Palmer Square is just a 5-minute walk from campus. And if you’re driving, there’s plenty of parking available in the surrounding streets and parking lots.
I visited Princeton for the first time last year, and I loved it. The town is really pretty, and Palmer Square is a great place to walk around and do some shopping. I also got ice cream at Thomas Sweet, and it was very good.
15. Stroll Through Historic Smithville
Historic Smithville is a charming village located in the heart of the New Jersey Pine Barrens. The village is home to over 60 unique shops, seven eateries, a bed & breakfast, and a variety of events throughout the year.
Strolling through the village is like stepping back in time. The shops are housed in historic buildings, and the cobblestone streets are lined with gas lamps. The centerpiece of Smithville is the Village Greene, which is surrounded by period buildings that house businesses like a candy store, toy shop, and ice cream parlor. There’s also a Victorian carousel and an old-fashioned train that kids will love.
This is definitely one of the most beautiful places to visit in New Jersey. And it’s the perfect place to find unique gifts and souvenirs. The village is open year-round, but it’s especially festive during the holidays.
16. See a Show at the Paper Mill Playhouse
The Paper Mill Playhouse is a professional theater located in Millburn, New Jersey. The theater first opened its doors in 1938 and has been presenting Broadway-caliber shows ever since.
Some of the most popular productions at the Paper Mill Playhouse include Sweeny Todd, West Side Story, and Singin’ in the Rain. And in addition to its regular season, the theater also offers a variety of educational programs for students and families.
During my visit, there was a production of Sweeny Todd playing. I had seen the movie version before, but it was nothing compared to seeing it live. The acting, singing, and set design were all top-notch. And the theater itself was beautiful.
Seeing a show at the Paper Mill Playhouse is a great option if you’re looking for fun things to do in New Jersey. It’s perfect for a date night or a night out with friends. And if you have kids, there are plenty of family-friendly shows to choose from.
17. Check Out the Street Art in Asbury Park
Asbury Park is a world-renowned music destination, but it’s also home to some incredible street art. The city has worked hard to create a vibrant and colorful downtown area, and this can be seen on buildings, fences, and even sidewalks.
The Asbury Park Boardwalk is the best place to start your mural hunt. You’ll find several murals here, including one by world-famous artist Shepard Fairey. But don’t limit yourself to the boardwalk. Explore the city’s streets, and you’ll find even more hidden gems. And if you’re feeling really adventurous, you can even take a street art tour. Led by local artists, these tours will take you to some of the most popular murals as well as some hidden ones too.
I took a street art tour, and it was a lot of fun. I got to see some amazing murals and learned about the artists who created them. I would definitely recommend taking a tour if you’re interested in street art. They’re a great way to learn about the art scene and also the best things to see in New Jersey.
18. Visit the Paterson Great Falls National Historic Park
Want to see one of the most spectacular waterfalls in New Jersey? Then head to Paterson Great Falls National Historic Park. The falls are 77 feet high and are located on the Passaic River.
The falls were once used to power factories and mills in Paterson, which was once a major industrial center. Today, the falls are a popular spot for hiking, picnicking, and photography.
There are several walking trails in the park that offer different vantage points of the falls. And if you want to get a closer look, there’s an overlook platform that provides a great view of the water rushing over the rocks.
19. Pamper Yourself at a Spa
There’s no better place to relax and rejuvenate than at a spa. And New Jersey has no shortage of luxury spas where you can enjoy a day of pampering. From world-renowned resorts to intimate boutique spas, there’s something for everyone.
One of the most popular spas in New Jersey is the Sojo Spa Club in Edgewater. This Korean-inspired Spa features an extensive list of services, including massages, facials, and body treatments. And with both indoor and outdoor pools, you can enjoy the water no matter what the weather is like.

The Liberty Science Center has something for everyone, with exhibits on space, the environment, human bodies, and more. My favorite part was the animal exhibits, where you can learn about different species and their habitats.
There are also plenty of hands-on activities for kids to enjoy, as well as a planetarium and IMAX theater. And if you want to make a day of it, there’s also a cafe on-site.
The Liberty Science Center is located in Jersey City and is open daily (except Mondays) from 1:00 am to 5:00 pm. Tickets start at $32 for adults and $27 for kids ages 2-12.
21. Watch a Movie at the Drive-In
Drive-in movies are a blast from the past and a great way to enjoy a film in the summertime. So one of the best things to do in New Jersey in the summer is to watch a movie at the drive-in. There are two drive-in movie theaters in the state; The Newark Moonlight Cinema and the Delsea Drive-In.
The Newark Moonlight Cinema is located in Newark, and the drive-in has a capacity of 300 cars. On the other hand, Delsea drive-in is located in Vineland and can accommodate up to 400 cars. No matter which one you choose, you’re in for a fun and unique experience.
You can bring your own snacks and drinks or buy them at the concession stand. And if you get there early enough, you can snag a spot near the front to have a perfect view of the screen.
Just be sure to bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating, as most drive-ins don’t have assigned seats. And if you have small children, bring some toys or games to keep them entertained during the movie.
22. Visit the Grounds for Sculpture
I would never have guessed that New Jersey would be home to such an incredible sculpture park. The Grounds for Sculpture is a 42-acre open-air museum that features more than 270 sculptures by artists worldwide.
The Grounds for Sculpture was founded in 1992 by New Jersey residents John Seward Johnson II. It’s located on the site of the former New Jersey State Fairgrounds and includes several buildings that have been repurposed as galleries and exhibition spaces.
Today, you can stroll through the grounds and admire the sculptures or participate in one of the many art classes or workshops offered.
But it’s not just about the art. It’s also about the gardens. The Grounds for Sculpture is filled with beautiful gardens, walking trails, and hidden nooks to explore. It’s the perfect place to spend a day if you’re looking for something different to do.
23. Shop at Camden’s Waterfront
Want to do some shopping while you’re in New Jersey? Then head to the Camden Waterfront, where you’ll find more than 100 stores and restaurants.
The Camden Waterfront is located along the Delaware River, just across from Philadelphia. It’s a popular spot for both locals and tourists, as it offers a variety of shops and restaurants.
But it’s not just a place to shop and eat. The Camden Waterfront is also home to the Adventure Aquarium, the USS New Jersey Battleship Museum, and the BB&T Pavilion, a concert venue that hosts both local and national acts.

24. Visit Princeton Battlefield State Park
Princeton Battlefield State Park is a 681-acre state park that commemorates the Battle of Princeton, which was fought on January 3, 1777, during the American Revolutionary War. The Battle of Princeton was a pivotal moment in the war as it resulted in the defeat of British troops and the capture of over 500 prisoners.
Today, visitors can take a self-guided tour of the battlefield and see where different events took place. This house served as a hospital during the battle, and this monument marks the spot where General George Washington rallied his troops. And in addition to the battlefield, there are also hiking trails, picnicking areas, and a playground.
My trip here was really educational, and I enjoyed learning about the role New Jersey played in the Revolutionary War. I also loved walking around the battlefield and seeing where everything happened. If you’re interested in American history, then this is definitely one of the best places in New Jersey you should visit.
25. Take a Hike in High Point State Park
High Point State Park is a 15,000-acre state park located in Sussex County, New Jersey. The park is home to the state’s highest point, which is 1,803 feet above sea level.
There are over 50 miles of hiking trails in the park, as well as a lake for swimming, boating, and fishing. In the winter, the park is also popular for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
I went hiking with some friends here, and it was a great way to get outside and explore New Jersey’s natural beauty. We hiked the Appalachian Trail, which was about 18 miles. We didn’t make it the whole way, but it was still a great workout, and we saw some amazing views.
There are also plenty of shorter trails if you’re not looking for a long hike. And no matter which trail you choose, you’re sure to get some great views. And being one of the points of interest in New Jersey, you’ll want to make sure to add this park to your list.
26. Go “Wild” at Morey’s Piers
Morey’s Piers is a seaside amusement park in the Wildwoods that has been family-owned and operated since 1969. The park is spread out over six blocks and has more than 100 rides and attractions, making it one of the largest amusement parks on the East Coast.
Some of the most popular rides at Morey’s Piers include the Great White, a wooden roller coaster that reaches speeds of up to 60 miles per hour; the Sea Serpent, a steel coaster that features a 90-degree drop; and the Great Nor’easter, a spinning coaster that goes upside down.
In addition to traditional amusement park rides, Morey’s Piers also has water parks, arcades, shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues. There’s something for everyone here, making it one of the famous attractions in New Jersey.

The best time to visit NJPAC is during the summer when they have their free Outdoor Summer Concert Series. This series features a different performer each week, ranging from up-and-coming artists to well-known names.

28. Visit the USS New Jersey Battleship Museum

29. Nickelodeon Universe at American Dream
American Dream, a long-awaited mega-mall in East Rutherford, finally opened its doors to the public in October 2019. And one of the main attractions is Nickelodeon Universe, an indoor theme park that’s chock-full of rides, games, and activities.
The park is divided into different zones, each with its own unique theme. For example, Adventure Island has rides inspired by popular Nickelodeon shows like SpongeBob SquarePants and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
And if you’re looking for thrills, there are plenty of rides that will get your heart racing. From roller coasters to drop towers, there’s something for everyone. Plus, there are tons of interactive games and opportunities to meet your favorite Nickelodeon characters.
A trip to this theme park is a must for any Nickelodeon fan. And even if you’re not a fan, it’s still a great place to spend the day. And being one of the most popular attractions in New Jersey, be sure to buy your tickets in advance as they do sell out.
30. Visit Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area

On the other hand, Breakwater Beach is a waterpark with more than 30 rides and attractions, including slides, a lazy river, and a wave pool.

And the best part is that it’s indoors, so you can go no matter what the weather is like outside. Plus, it’s also a great way to tire them out, so they’ll take a nice long nap afterward.
36. Watch a Minor League Baseball Game
There’s no better way to spend a summer day than watching America’s favorite pastime: baseball. And in New Jersey, you don’t have to go far to find a minor league game.

And since the temperature underground is a constant 52 degrees Fahrenheit, dress warmly.
My visit to the Sterling Hill Mining Museum was one of the highlights of my trip to New Jersey. I had never seen anything like the Rainbow Tunnel before, and it was really cool to learn about the state’s mining history.
